Borivali police have booked 10 people, including Jatin Sharma, for allegedly firing a baby airgun during a birthday celebration on a public road in Gorai, Borivali West. The group reportedly caused traffic disruption and panic among residents. Police acted suo motu after a video surfaced online and registered a case under relevant BNS provisions.

Mumbai: The Borivali police have registered a case against 10 individuals, including a man accused of firing a baby airgun during a birthday celebration on a public road in Borivali West in the early hours of August 5. The main accused, Jatin Sharma, was detained by the police.
The police said that the accused who allegedly fired the airgun has been identified as Jatin Sharma. According to the police, Sharma allegedly fired pellets from a baby airgun during his friend's birthday celebration.
The incident took place at around 12.30 am on a public road near Gharkul Co-operative Housing Society, opposite Suvidya School, Gorai 2, Borivali West.
According to the police, Akash Gupta, 26, had organised a birthday celebration and invited his friends. The group allegedly celebrated in the middle of the road, creating noise and obstructing traffic. Gupta allegedly cut his birthday cake on the bonnet of an Innova car parked on the road. During the celebration, Sharma allegedly fired pellets from a baby airgun, causing a loud noise and creating panic among people in the area.
Police said the group allegedly violated public order by celebrating on the road, causing traffic obstruction, creating a public nuisance, and disturbing the peace. A case has been registered against Sharma and the other nine individuals under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The other accused have been identified as Akash Gupta, 26, Vijesh Upadhyay, 26, Vikram Chaudhary alias Tom, 29, Aishwary Gomane, 26, Ajinkya Adhav, 24, Jay Kapadia, 27, Rohan Patil, 27, Mukund Thorave, 25, and Prashant Harijan, 25.
The police said that no one approached them because people in the area were terrified. They came across the video on social media and took suo motu action against the accused.
Pushpalata Mandale, Senior Police Inspector of Borivali Police Station, said, "The accused committed the act for fun, but it created fear in the area. All the accused live in the same locality. Akash Gupta, whose birthday was being celebrated and who cut the cake, has photographs with members of several political parties. However, we have not found any connection between him and any political party so far."
She further said that none of the accused has any previous criminal record. All of them are educated, most of them work in the pharma sector, and further investigation is underway.
