Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Rain, Thunderstorms Wednesday After Unseasonal Showers

Rain and thunderstorms are predicted for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the city witnessed the first unseasonal showers of the year on Tuesday night. The areas which recieved drizzles included Powai, Kurla, Chembur, isolated locations in South Mumbai and in Navi Mumbai too. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall warning for Tuesday, April 1.

Rain and thunderstorms are predicted for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts on Wednesday as IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, while several other districts have been issued an orange alert.

“On Tuesday, parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Karjat and Kasara, witnessed unseasonal rains. Thunderstorms were witnessed in the interiors of Maharashtra. Mumbai is expected to have rainfall with thunderstorms on Wednesday. As Mumbai is witnessing cyclonic circulation, the skies are cloudy and we are witnessing increased humidity as well as dry weather,” said IMD Mumbai Director Shubhangi Bhute.

On Tuesday, Mumbai’s Colaba observatory recorded maximum and minimum temperatures of 32.7°C and 25.8°C, respectively. The Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 37.7°C, which was 4.6°C above normal, and a minimum temperature of 25.3°C.

Every year in March-April, the state witnesses unseasonal rains as the region enters the peak of the summer season.

There will be a gradual rise in the maximum temperature from next week. The overall temperature for April is expected to be above normal. The IMD has predicted heatwave conditions for Konkan, Marathwada, North Maharashtra and Vidharbha regions.

Mumbai has already experienced two heatwaves this season: February 25 and 26 and March 11 to 13.
