Mumbai: Vishwa Hindu Parishad To Organise 'Samrasta Yatra' Against Untouchability

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad will organise a ‘Samrasta Yatra’ in Mumbai against untouchability with an aim to secure Sanatan Dharma and the country. The yatra will be held from January 9 to 12 covering areas like Mulund, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Chembur and Kurla.

On Tuesday, VHP Konkan Division announced that it will host a Samrasta Yatra in Mumbai from Wednesday to Sunday. The aim of this Samrasta Yatra is to create a discrimination free and harmonious India to protect the country’s future generations and the Sanatan Dharma. VHP said that its mission is to remove the stigma of discrimination in the Hindu society “to protect sanatan nation, sisters, daughters, temples and saints through the unity of Hindu society.

In an official statement, the VHP claimed that the Vedic period was free from casteism and untouchability and there is no mention of untouchability in the Hindu religious scriptures. It said that the stigma has entered the society after attacks of Mughals and British. 

“VHP’s former president Ashok Singhal used to call his brothers from the scheduled caste and tribes as the protectors of Hindu religion, who suffered from foreign and religious invasion but did not leave the Sanatan Dharma of their ancestors. It is our duty to ensure respect and equality to them in the society and help them to stand tall with self respect,” said an official spokesperson of VHP.
