Mumbai updates: IMD issues heavy rain alert for Maharashtra from July 6 to 8
The IMD has issued an orange alert -- very heavy rainfall is projected at isolated places -- over Mumbai, Thane and Pune in the next few days, possibly till Saturday (July 9). On Tuesday, in Mumbai, there was between 140 mm and 150 mm of rainfall, which is categorised as heavy. A warning of extremely heavy rainfall (more than 200 mm) has been given for the city and Thane in the coming days.

The Mumbai Traffic police were out in full force amidst the heavy downpour on Tuesday, as traffic jams, slowdowns and minor accidents were reported in areas like Western Express Highway, SV Road, Sion and Dadar. Traffic personnel were deployed at all problem spots and continuous updates were provided to the citizens through social media accounts. According to Traffic Police officials, close to 2,000 personnel were deployed who were actively working on the ground on Tuesday.
As rains drenched the city on Tuesday, BEST buses had to take a detour or pass through waterlogged roads. Taxis and auto rickshaws were also less on road due to inundation. There were at least 15-20 per cent fewer black and yellow taxis and autos on roads.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall alert for Maharashtra on Wednesday and the next two days, as state capital Mumbai continued to witness heavy downpour for the third consecutive day, resulting in a landslide near a chawl, water-logging at many places and traffic disruptions.
