Mumbai: Two persons were killed and three others injured after being hit by a suburban train near Sandhurst Road railway station in south Mumbai on Thursday evening, officials said.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m., shortly after suburban train services resumed following a flash strike by railway employees. The agitation had been triggered by the registration of an FIR against two engineers in connection with the June 9 Mumbra train accident.

Victims Were Walking Along The Tracks

According to officials, the victims were walking along the railway tracks when they were struck by a local train near a pole close to Sandhurst Road station.

One Victim Identified, GRP Probing Second Identity

The deceased was identified as Helly Mohmaya (19); however, the identity of the other deceased person is yet to be confirmed. Kaif Choghale (22), Khooshbu Mohmaya (45), and Yafiza Choghale (62) were injured. The GRP is trying to ascertain the identity of the second deceased person and gather details about the victims.

Hospital Confirms Two Deaths, One Still Under Treatment

“Two persons were brought dead to JJ Hospital, while three were injured. Of these, two took discharge against medical advice (DAMA), and one is still undergoing treatment,” a JJ Hospital official said.

GRP And Railways Appeal For Caution

A Government Railway Police (GRP) official confirmed that the victims were walking on the tracks. “Had the train not been halted due to the strike, this incident might not have occurred,” the official said.

When asked whether the incident was related to the ongoing agitation, a senior railway officials said, “The railway frequently appeals to commuters not to cross the tracks under any circumstances. Whether the victims were commuters or others will be investigated. When a train is running at high speed, it cannot stop immediately—especially in the dark. Hence, the railway always urges commuters and residents living near the tracks to avoid walking on them, as it can be extremely dangerous.”
