Mumbai Traffic Police Register 17,800 Violations, Penalise 333 For Drunk Driving On New Year's Eve 2024

Mumbai: As 2024 came to a close, Mumbai's citizens gathered at iconic locations such as the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Bandstand, and Juhu Beach, as well as pre-planned event venues, to celebrate and welcome the New Year, 2025. To ensure smooth traffic regulation and management during these celebrations, the Traffic Control Department implemented a robust plan.
Additionally, the Traffic Department registered 17,800 cases of traffic violations through e-challans. Comparatively, on December 31, 2023, there were 333 cases of drunk driving reported. The drive was conducted from 8:00 PM on December 31, 2024, to the morning of January 1, 2025. During this period, checkpoints were set up at 107 locations across the city, and a total of 46,143 vehicles were inspected. Action was taken against 5,670 motorists under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, 333 motorists were penalized for driving under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, the Traffic Police issued e-challans to 17,800 motorists for traffic violations.
On the night of December 31, 2024, action was taken against 17,800 errant drivers who violated traffic rules, endangering their lives and the lives of others. E-challans were issued, and a total fine of ₹89,19,750 was collected. Additionally, 333 cases of drunk driving were registered, with strict action taken against the offenders under the "Drunk and Drive" provisions.
Under the guidance of the Commissioner of Police, the Special Commissioner of Police, and the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), the Mumbai Police organized a special drive to take action against motorists violating traffic rules within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police Commissionerate.
