Mumbai: The intervention of Shiv Arogya Sena, the health wing of Shiv Sena (UBT) helped a medicine delivery agent get a discount on heavy hospital bills after suffering a heart attack.
About The Case
Ramesh Bowne, 40, a resident of Vashigaon, was admitted to Ghatkopar’s Heart & Vascular Superspeciality Hospital (HVS) on December 25 with chest pain. Bowne was admitted by passers-by after he complained of chest pain, said his brother Nirmal, adding that the hospital advised angiography followed by angioplasty. The estimated cost was pegged at Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. They made a deposit of Rs 50,000 but were given a bill of Rs 2.83 lakh.
Nirmal alleged that the hospital became aggressive when they said they didn’t have the money. They managed to pay Rs 2 lakh but were refused discharge. Dr Shubha Raul and Dr Kishore Thanekar of Aarogya Sena spoke to the hospital, which agreed on a significant discount. The HVS administration was unavailable for comment.
