Mumbai: A sessions court recently awarded 10-year imprisonment to a woman for causing the death of her husband after a dispute in September 2015. The court refused to sentence her for murder but held her guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
As per the prosecution, the accused Jannat Ansari, 45, who was the second wife of the victim, Yusuf Ansari, had a fight with him on the night of September 11, 2015. Yusuf’s sons and relatives testified that Jannat used to suspect that the victim had an extra-marital affair.
The prosecution claimed that after the quarrel, she brutally stabbed Yusuf to death with a kitchen knife. During the postmortem, the doctors saw 37 injuries on his body; five of which were on vital parts.

The court said that the prosecution failed to prove that the accused had the intention to kill the man. “There is a possibility that the accused committed the act in the heat of passion upon a sudden quarrel,” it ruled.
