Mumbai: Yet again, the city woke up to heavy rainfall leading to waterlogging in major areas. BEST bus routes were diverted and locals were running 15 minutes late which delayed the office goers. Even with the constant management on the ground by the Mumbai Traffic police, massive congestion and bottleneck traffic were witnessed in areas like Eastern Express Highway, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, and Andheri. After disruption in the early morning, the rain subsided in the afternoon giving relief to the Mumbaikars. The incident of houses and trees collapsing continued in the city, unfortunately, three people were injured in a landslide at Chunabhatti. They are being treated in Sion hospital and their condition is stable.

Rainfall recorded by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Colaba observatory within 24 hours till Wednesday at 8.30. a.m. was 84 mm while Santacruz observatory recorded 193.6 mm. It rained heavily in the eastern suburbs which recorded 171.39 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, while the city received 107 mm and western suburbs recorded 152 mm of rainfall. So several low-lying areas across the city were waterlogged such as Sion Circle, Sion road no. 24, Dadar T.T., Hindmata, Ghatkopar station, Kalpana cinema, Kurla station, Shell colony Chembur, Khar subway etc. Water was pumped out from Hindmata and Gandhi markets and the water receded faster giving relief to the area.

An incident of the landslide was reported in the morning at 10.28 a.m. in Chunabhatti. Some parts of the hill collapsed on the nearby ground plus one-storey Narayan Hadke Chawl damaged three houses. Shubham Sonawane (15 yrs), Prakash Sonawane (40 yrs) and Sureka Virkar (20 yrs ) residents of the chawl were injured in the incident. They were rushed to BMC's Sion hospital where the injured were treated and their condition is stable, said the civic official. Other than this 18 incidents of a house collapsed, 34 trees collapsed and 20 incidents of the short circuit have been reported in the city in the last 24 hours. IMD Santacruz observatory recorded 32mm of rainfall and the Colaba observatory recorded 25 mm from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m on Wednesday.
