Mumbai Rains: Water Levels In Seven Lakes Of City Cross 75% Stock Due To Heavy Rainfall

Mumbai: Following substantial rainfall in their catchment areas, the water levels in the lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai have risen. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data reveals that the total stock in the seven reservoirs supplying water to the city is currently at 75.16 percent.

The overall water volume in the seven lakes reached 1,087,865 million litres (ML) on Sunday. Among the reservoirs, Upper Vaitarna noted a level of 601.80 metres, holding a live storage of 172,022 ML, while Modak Sagar and Tansa indicated 128,925 ML and 116,653 ML respectively. Middle Vaitarna had a water reserve of 179,675 ML, while Bhatsa, the main supplier, retained 473,010 ML. Vehar and Tulsi held 13,478 ML and 4,102 ML, respectively.

The total storage in Upper Vaitarna, Vaitarna, Tansa, and Middle Vaitarna is 597,275 ML, with 85.99 percent of the total capacity in use. The Bhandup Complex has recorded a total rainfall of 730.00 mm this season, with 18.00 mm noted on the reporting day.

Ongoing water release from lakes and gate operations includes the Upper Vaitarna release that started on July 5 and the Middle Vaitarna gate openings that began on July 7.

Mumbai Weather Forecast

On Sunday, Mumbai and its surrounding areas are anticipated to experience a partly cloudy atmosphere with occasional light rainfall. Although the rainfall is expected to be moderate, inhabitants should stay ready for sporadic downpours during the day.

Sea conditions will change, with a high tide of 4.46 meters anticipated at 1:52 pm and a low tide of 1.58 meters at 7:57 pm. As July 14 progresses into the early morning, a high tide of 3.89 metres is expected at 1:44 am, succeeded by a low tide at 7:26 am, registering 0.74 metres.
