Mumbai Police On High Alert After Nagpur Violence; Mock Drill Conducted In Andheri's Marol

Mumbai: Following the recent violent clashes in Nagpur, Mumbai Police has intensified security measures and remains on high alert. Ahead of upcoming festivals like Eid and Gudi Padwa, the MIDC police conducted a mock drill and route march in the sensitive areas of Marol Makhwan Nagar on Saturday. The riot control unit carried out these drills to ensure preparedness in case of any law-and-order disturbances.

The drill took place in Andheri East, a designated sensitive zone, with active participation from MIDC and Andheri police stations, according to an ABP News report. Nearly 60 to 70 police personnel, including officers and firefighters, took part in the exercise. The objective of the drill was to simulate a real-time emergency response to handle a situation similar to the Nagpur violence. The police practiced rapid deployment and containment strategies to manage any potential unrest effectively.

With Ramadan, Gudi Padwa, and Navratri approaching, authorities fear that tensions could escalate again in certain regions. In anticipation of any disruptions, additional police forces have been stationed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order.

Curfew Continues In 4 Nagpur Areas

Meanwhile, curfew remains in force for the seventh consecutive day in four areas of Nagpur, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Kotwali and Yashodhara Nagar. However, authorities have granted a temporary relaxation between 7 pm and 10 pm, after which all movement restrictions will resume.

On the other hand, curfew has been completely lifted from five other police station limits, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Lakadganj, Sakkardara and Imamwada. Additionally, restrictions in two other police station zones had already been removed earlier.

In the curfew-affected regions, all government and private establishments remain shut as per the directives issued by the Nagpur Police Commissioner. Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any further escalation of violence.
