Mumbai: Few dogs and cats were safely evacuated after a fire broke out at Madina Manzil in Chembur on Friday night. The blaze, caused by a short circuit, was brought under control and fully extinguished within an hour. No injuries were reported in the incident, confirmed the fire official.
The blaze broke out in a ground-plus-seven-storey building in Vishnu Nagar, MHADA Colony in Chembur, around 8 pm on Friday. Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control within an hour.
Officials said the fire, triggered by a short circuit in the lift area, resulted in heavy smoke that caused panic among residents, prompting them to rush out of the building.
Local activist Vijay Rangare, in an Instagram post, praised the swift response of firefighters and volunteers. He said resident Nazma, who feeds stray dogs in the area, had 15 cats and 15 dogs in her flat when the fire broke out, causing panic. However, fire officials said there were only two cats and dogs, and no major damage was reported.
