Mumbai: Nigerian held with 130 grams of Methaqualone worth Rs 39 lakhs

Mumbai: Nigerian held with 130 grams MDMA worth Rs 39 lakhs | ANI

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai police arrested a 42-year-old Nigerian national from Vashi and seized 130 grams of Methaqualone worth Rs 10.3 lakh. The arrested person was selling the contraband.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of AHTU laid a trap near Anand Niketan Society in sector 9A in Vashi on November 4 and caught the Nigerian with the contraband. He was identified as Kenechi Nwani Ogbona, a resident of Juhugaon, sector 11 in Vashi and a native of Nigeria.

According to police, they had received a tip-off regarding the sale of contraband. Accordingly, the arrested person was asked to deliver the contraband and was caught when he came to sell Methaqualone. “We seized 130 grams of methaqualone from him worth Rs 10,30,00,” said an official from the crime branch. He added a mobile phone worth Rs 10,500 was also seized.

A case has been registered against him at Vashi police station under section 8 (A) and 22 (B) of the NDPS Act.

Methaqualone, popularly known as mandrax or party drug is highly sedative and mostly used by youth. The Navi Mumbai police commissioner has zero tolerance on the sale and use of drugs in the city.
