Mumbai News: Yellow Line Metro Faces Major Evening Delays; Passengers Stranded Across Stations |
Mumbai’s Metro Lines 2A and 7 witnessed significant disruptions on Sunday evening, causing inconvenience and frustration among thousands of commuters travelling between Andheri West and Lower Malad.
Passengers reported that trains were moving at an unusually slow pace and were halted for extended intervals at multiple stations, resulting in travel times nearly twice as long as usual. One commuter, who boarded the metro at Andheri West around 6 pm, said he reached Lower Malad only at 6:40 pm. “This journey normally takes less than 15 minutes since it covers just five stations, but today it took more than double the time. The train was halted at Oshiwara for almost 10 minutes, and the announcement system kept apologising for the delay,” he said.
Metro Authority Cites Technical Issue
“Due to a temporary technical issue, services on Line 2A and Line 7 were running with delays on Sunday evening. We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience. Our teams are working at full speed to restore normal service at the earliest,” the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation posted on X at around 7:25 pm on Sunday.
Online Outcry Over Lack of Timely Updates
Before the official clarification arrived, several passengers had taken to social media to share their ordeal. Commuters criticised the lack of timely updates and urged the authorities to provide clearer information about the disruptions and their underlying cause.
“Mumbai Metro is stuck at Andheri West station for the past 30 minutes on Sunday evening,” wrote user Abhisek Pandey. Another user, Dan_Hammerstone, posted, “Stuck here at Dahisar too.” Commuter Sachin Kumar added, “Yes, stuck here also.”
The complaints continued late into the evening. “Stuck at Malad West. When will it be resolved??” asked one user. Another commuter wrote, “I was stuck at Andheri East for nearly 25 minutes... and now the metro is moving at barely 10 to 15 kmph. Will MMRDA and MMMOCL find a solution? Already the monorail has been shut indefinitely.”
