Mumbai News: Tree Falls On Rickshaw Killing Driver And Dabbawala In Kalyan; Family Seeks Financial Aid From Deputy CM Eknath Shinde

Mumbai: Unexpected rainfall has instigated concern among travelers throughout Mumbai. In some regions, trees have been blown down because of powerful winds. On Tuesday evening, a moving rickshaw on Chinchpada Road in Kalyan East was struck by a falling Gulmohar tree, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, one of whom was a rickshaw driver. A dabbawala from Mumbai lost his life in this incident. This tragedy has caused sorrow for the Khengale family, who work as dabbawalas. Consequently, the dabbawala group has requested aid money from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The Kalyan region experienced unusual rain and wind. A big Gulmohar tree located by the roadside collapsed onto a passing rickshaw. In this incident, three individuals, including the rickshaw driver, lost their lives. The wounded individuals were transported to Bai Rukminibai Hospital in Kalyan, where they were pronounced dead.

Among the deceased was rickshaw driver Uma Shankar Verma, who was around 45 years old. The deceased individuals are Matoshree Nagar Chinchpada village, Tukaram Khengale, 50 years old, living in Chinchpada village, and Lata Dattaram Raut, 47 years old, residing in Sai Samruddhi Chawl Room No. 5, Chinchpada village. Among the deceased is Tukaram Khengale, a dabbawala from Mumbai.

On Tuesday evening, there was unusual rainfall accompanied by a storm in the Mumbai-Thane-Kalyan region. In this storm, a tree collapsed onto a rickshaw in Chinchpada Kalyan, resulting in the death of Tukaram Khengale, a dabbawala employee. He was cremated in his hometown, Pait Tal. Rajgurunagar, district of Pune. Tukaram Khengale had been employed as a dabbawala driver in Mumbai for several years.

After completing his daily task of delivering dabbas in Mumbai, he was returning home by rickshaw from the railway station in Kalyan East when a Gulmohar tree collapsed on the moving rickshaw, leading to his death in the incident.

Tukaram Khengale was the family's primary provider; after his accidental passing, the Mumbai Dabbawala Association requested financial aid from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for his family. In the meantime, the Dabbawala Association has reached out to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for assistance for the Khengale family.
