Mumbai News: Breach Candy Residents Urge Tata Trust To Restore Tata Garden, Propose Renaming It ‘Ratan Tata Garden’ In Honour Of His Legacy

Mumbai: The residents of Breach Candy have started an online petition urging the Tata Trust to adopt and restore the Tata Garden, one of the biggest park in south Mumbai. Known for its serene lanes and gentle sea breeze, the 8000 square meters garden was sliced in three pieces for the Coastal Road project, with the two roads cutting it.

Notably, the garden was adopted by Tata Power Ltd under CSR, but the BMC took over when the construction of Coastal Road began. The residents now urge the Tatas to re-adopt the park and restore it in the legacy of the corporate leader late Ratan Tata.

The online petition has gained almost 2500 signatures so far, makes an emotional appeal saying, "Can the Tatas Return with support and rename it "Ratan Tata Garden" to honour the legacy of India’s most beloved corporate leader? We are not requesting a statue. We seek a living tribute, one crafted from trees, children’s laughter, lush grass, and the sound of birdsong."

"The Coastal Road interchange, meant to ease traffic, unfortunately, sliced our beloved Tata Garden. We supported development but came together and requested authorities to retain the heritage to its best form. What we have today is a garden divided, choked by dust, neglected, and forgotten due to a lack of maintenance and proper care."

"Tata Garden, once again, needs a parent, someone to nurture and provide affectionate care to each piece of green in this green lung of Mumbai's city," the petition reads. The residents say that they have been emailing to concerned officials from Tata Power and awaiting their response.
