Mumbai, April 3: In a remarkable act of compassion, a 47-year-old brain-dead woman from Bandra has given a new lease of life to several critically ill patients through organ donation.
Family consents to organ donation
The woman was admitted to S.L. Raheja Hospital in Mumbai after suffering a severe brain haemorrhage. Despite intensive treatment, doctors declared her brain-dead. In a courageous decision during a time of grief, her family — including her husband, two children, and brother — consented to donate her organs.
Liver transplant saves cancer patient
Her liver was successfully transplanted into a 62-year-old farmer, originally from Varanasi and currently residing in Mulund. The patient had been battling liver failure and hepatic carcinoma since September 2025. Doctors confirmed that the transplant surgery was successful and has significantly improved his condition.
Heart transported via green corridor
In another life-saving effort, her heart was transported within 23 minutes via a specially created green corridor to Fortis Hospital. There, a 39-year-old patient from Buldhana, suffering from severe heart disease, underwent a successful heart transplant.
Bones preserved for future surgeries
Additionally, the donated bones have been preserved in a tissue bank and will be used for future reconstructive surgeries.
