Mumbai, April 2: Soon, all 237 corporators in Mumbai will have a sticker of ‘nagarsevak’ with a QR code on their vehicles. The QR code is for public information, which, after being scanned, will display the corporator's name, the ward she/he is representing, and the vehicle number. The work of pasting the stickers is expected to be completed this month.
QR-coded stickers to enhance transparency
"Every term, the administration gives ID cards, badges, and vehicle stickers to the corporators. However, with technological advancement, this term the vehicle sticker has a QR code. This will give citizens information about the corporator, and also prevent misuse of the corporator’s vehicle by his/her PA or other staff. It will be given to all 227 elected corporators and 10 nominated corporators. The stickers are ready and will be handed to the corporators soon," a BMC officer said.
Stickers to aid identification and access
The official added that as corporators go on visits across the city, the stickers will also prove their identity while parking their vehicles and getting access.

Citizens question effectiveness of the move
Manda Shete, a resident of Chembur, said, "The initiative is good, but will it stop the misuse of power by the elected representatives? Many corporators' karyakartas, office staff, family members, etc., display power to get access to barricaded areas, for parking their vehicles anywhere, etc. We citizens expect application of rules to everyone, including common citizens and public representatives."
