Mumbai: Two days after the leak was discovered in the 750mm diameter pipeline near Lucky Hotel in Bandra West, repair work began on Wednesday, following approval from the traffic police. However, the delay in repairs continued to affect water supply in areas such as Khar Danda, Dandpada, Gazdar Bandh, Chuim Village, Dr. Ambedkar Road, Pali Village, and parts of Khar.
Although the leak was identified on Monday, repair work was delayed due to traffic constraints. The road could not be closed without alternate arrangements, so the BMC had to wait for traffic police approval to proceed with excavation.
Additionally, the earlier excavation by the civic team was halted as no clear leakage was found in the dug-up area. After receiving traffic NOC the BMC's Hydraulic Engineering Department resume excavation after pinpointing the exact leakage spot using the sounding method.
Asif Zakaria, the former corporator of Bandra, said, "The repair work has started now and will be completed soon, as the BMC has located the issue. There was a low water supply in some parts of Khar and Bandra on Wednesday."
Vikas Mhatre, a local resident of Khar, said, "We have been facing a water shortage for the last two days. Although we received water, the pressure was low, making it difficult to carry out routine household chores."
According to civic officials, "A leak was discovered at the bottom of a pipe by our team. Consequently, welding work has been initiated to repair the pipe, and the pipeline will be restored soon."
However, due to this issue, water supply to areas such as Khar West, Danda Koliwada, Chuim Village, Dandpada, and Gajdarband has been delayed. Additionally, water supply to Pali Village and Dr. Ambedkar Road will also be affected.
