Mumbai: Muslim Religious Leaders Visit Bangladesh Mission, Urge To Stop Violence Against Hindus And Demand Compensation For Victims

Mumbai: A delegation of Muslim religious leaders met officials at the Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commissioner in Cuffe Parade, Mumbai, on Monday to express their concern about the attacks on Hindus and other religious minorities in that country after the new regime took charge. They asked the Bangladesh government to compensate the minority communities for the loss of homes, shops, and religious places.

The delegates, including Sayed Moinuddin Ashraf, president of All India Sunni Jamiatul Ulama, Maulana Eijaz Kashmiri, Maulana Khalilur Rehman, Maulana Abbas Razvi, and M Saeed Noori, president of the Raza Academy, said that the recent atrocities on minority communities have raised concerns among Indians. The role of India in establishing the People’s Republic of Bangladesh cannot be overlooked, the groups said.

In their representation, the delegates said: ‘The atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh must be stopped immediately. Such atrocities are against the teachings of Islam. The protection of the lives, property, and places of worship of minorities is the responsibility of the government and the majority people. This has never happened for more than 50 years and it is not only sad but condemnable too.”

The groups demanded steps by the Bangladesh government to restore the sense of security among the minority groups and compensation to them for the loss of lives and the cost of treatment of those injured in the communal attacks. They also said that the homes, shops, and temples burned or destroyed should be restored. They also asked the Bangladesh government to ensure that the violence is not repeated.

They asked the office of the Deputy High Commission to convey their demands to the authorities back home. “We were assured that our memorandum will be sent immediately to the ministry office in Bangladesh,” said Noori.
