Heavy rainfall uprooted a tree near Mumbai's Churchgate station on Thursday afternoon, crushing several parked vehicles and trapping multiple two-wheelers beneath it. Mumbai: A tree was uprooted near Churchgate station due to heavy rainfall and fell on nearby parked vehicles in the wee hours of Thursday. The tree crushed a few vehicles, while several two-wheelers were trapped beneath it.
Incident caught on video
A video shared by ANI on its X account (formerly Twitter) captured the aftermath of the incident. In the video, a police officer was seen near the site. When asked when the incident occurred, he said it happened at around 3 am, when the tree was uprooted.
A security gaurd named Raju while speaking on the matter stated that when he arrived for duty at 8am the tree was alredy uprooted.
"When I arrived for duty at 8 AM, I saw that this tree had fallen right across the road...A car was damaged, but there was no one inside it. The tree was quite old; it had started leaning to one side, which is why it fell," he said.
Heavy rain disrupts city
Due to heavy overnight rainfall across parts of the city, several areas reported waterlogging, disrupting traffic movement. The intense rainfall through the night affected both South Mumbai and suburban areas, with several low-lying locations affected due to the heavy spell.
Moreover, the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for the city, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Mumbai's Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts are expected to receive intense spells of rain at isolated places over the next three hours.

Further, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also warned citizens that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across the city and suburbs today, with the possibility of extremely heavy rain tonight and into Thursday morning. Occasional gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are also likely.
With latest BMC data, high tide is expected at 1.45 pm and again at 1.31 am on July 3, while low tide is expected at 7.49 pm and 7.11 am on July 3. During the 24 hours from 8 am on July 1 to 8 am on July 2, 2026, the average rainfall recorded was 172 mm in the city, 189 mm in the eastern suburbs and 165 mm in the western suburbs.
Train services delayed
Furthermore, the heavy rainfall in the city has impacted the railway network, with local train services on the Western, Central and Harbour lines running around 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule.
