The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully installed a massive steel span at the Pantnagar-Ghatkopar Bus Station in Ghatkopar East, marking a major milestone in the progress of Metro Line 4 (Wadala to Kasarvadavli).
The challenging task, involving a 58-metre-long, 3.1-metre-high, 450-ton span built using five steel girders, was completed in just two nights despite heavy rainfall, heavy vehicular traffic on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, and tight working conditions due to the nearby Somaiyya Nallah.
Heavy Lifting Under Challenging Conditions
To ensure a smooth and safe installation, MMRDA deployed extensive resources, including 700 metric ton and 500 metric ton capacity cranes, supported by 500 ton and 80 ton backup cranes. Over 100 workers, engineers, and essential safety personnel worked alongside more than 50 trained traffic wardens to keep the busy corridor functional.
Additional machinery, including six trailers, three hydras, three Eicher trucks, three manlifters, and an ambulance on standby, ensured uninterrupted progress.
84.5% Project Completion
Metro Line 4, spanning from Wadala to Kasarvadavli, has now reached 84.5% completion. The newly installed span will pave the way for faster and more efficient travel for commuters in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) once the line is operational.
MMRDA expressed gratitude to government authorities and all supporting agencies for their critical role in the timely and safe execution of this complex task. Their joint efforts ensured minimal disruption to traffic and residents during the work.
Shaping Mumbai’s Transport Future
The installation marks a significant leap forward in Mumbai’s metro infrastructure development, bringing the city closer to a more seamless, faster, and sustainable public transport system
