Mumbai Metro services will be increased and extended till late night during Ganeshotsav to facilitate the movement of devotees, while regular mega and night blocks on Central Railway’s Main, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines will be avoided during the festival, Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said on Friday.

Metro Operators Asked To Increase Frequency During Peak Hours

Lodha has directed transport authorities to ensure safe, smooth and hassle-free travel for the lakhs of devotees expected to visit Ganesh mandals across Mumbai and its suburbs. Metro operators have been asked to reduce the interval between services during peak hours, operate additional trains and extend the last services, wherever required, up to midnight.

The minister has also directed Central Railway not to undertake regular mega blocks and night blocks from the beginning of Ganeshotsav until Anant Chaturdashi, considering the expected increase in passenger traffic.

Additional Local Trains And Security Personnel Planned For Devotees

Additional suburban special trains should be operated during peak and late-night hours to cater to devotees returning after Ganesh darshan. The deployment of additional Railway Protection Force personnel and Maharashtra Security Guards at major railway stations has also been directed for crowd management and passenger safety.

Lodha said all Metro ticket counters, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines, digital and QR-based ticketing facilities should remain operational until the last train. Lifts, escalators, drinking water facilities, public toilets and first-aid centres should also remain available while Metro services are operating.

Additional security and crowd management personnel will be deployed at busy Metro stations. Authorities have been instructed to regularly communicate changes in train timings and other passenger information through display boards, public announcements and official social media platforms.

“Ganeshotsav is a major celebration of faith and enthusiasm for Mumbaikars. Transport agencies must work in coordination to ensure safe, smooth and timely journeys for devotees,” Lodha said.
