Teething troubles refuse to leave the two new Metro lines. Platform screen doors – installed for the first time to ensure passenger safety – have been witnessing technical glitches. Sometimes they don’t open when the train arrives at stations, and at other times they don’t close.
Several commuters have complained that the doors of the rake opened up, but the platform screen door didn’t. A netizen, Akshay Patil, tweeted a video wherein the Metro train is seen moving with one door open. Patil tweeted, “Day 5 of problems. As I mentioned in my YouTube video, Trainset 4 is having door problems since the initial dry revenue trials.
Still it is being operated without rectifying its issue @MMRDAOfficial. When it gets stuck on the mainline, it causes trouble to both UP and Down line trains.”
Patil also pointed out other technical problems that he faced while travelling. He boarded from Pahadi Eksar, but the train halted multiple times before reaching Borivali West station. During this time, station doors opened and closed twice, and then the journey was terminated and everyone needed to deboard. When he tried to exit from Borivali West station, the automatic fare collection system gates rejected his ticket, showing a mismatch of station despite a ticket for the next stop.
In response to the video of open doors, a netizen responded, “Sad story of the new Metro continues. What was the need to inaugurate it if there are technical issues... Very unfortunate.”
