An email was received on the feedback email ID of the Mumbai airport, which threatened about a bomb blast in a flight. The authorities then carried out search operations and found out that the terrorist attack threat was a hoax intended to create panic. A case has been registered by the police on Sunday and efforts are on to trace the suspect.

According to the police, an email was received on Saturday night, which warned of a bomb attack on a flight at the Mumbai airport. The mail's sender had also provided the number of a Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight in the email which read, “I will blow up the flight”. The authorities were immediately alerted after receiving the communication.

“The CISF officials as well as bomb and dog squads carried out searches and the threat turned out to be a hoax,” said the police officer. Still as a precautionary measure, the security has been beefed up at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the police said.

A case was registered by the Sahar police on Sunday under sections 505 (1) (b) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are now trying to find out the IP address from which the email was sent.
