Mumbai: Govt to charge fees for organising private events at Gateway of India
Corporate, event companies will have to shell out Rs 5 lakh per day to organise programmes at the heritage site
Mumbai: Now organising programmes or events at Gateway of India, one of the popular heritage sites of Mumbai won't be free of cost. The state tourism and cultural department has come up with a new policy decision of levying a certain amount for using the site. A notification has been issued explaining various price slabs for programmes organised by foreign delegates, corporates and event companies at Gateway of India.
According to the July 7 notification, the site will be available free of cost for programmes of Army, and Navy events. It is to be noted that every year, Navy day event is celebrated at the Gateway of India.
Other than that, if any corporate or event management companies wish to organise a programme at the site will have to shell out Rs 5 lakh per day. Whereas the cost of illumination is Rs one lakh separately. Similarly, foreign delegates have to pay Rs one lakh and illumination cost of Rs 10,000 separately per day.
However, if government authorities in association with corporate companies want to organise a programme, need to pay Rs 2 lakh per day along with illumination cost of Rs one lakh per day. Whereas foreign delegates in association with corporate companies will be charged Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for illumination per day, the notification reads.
The Maharashtra government has said that the permission to organise the programme will be given only on working days and not on Saturday or Sunday as a large number of tourists visit the site on weekends.
The government further said that in the event of natural calamity, an alternate venue will be provided by the authority and reimbursement will be made as per the provision.
The fees that will be collected from these events or programmes will be used for the upkeep of the site.
