Mumbai: A 51-year-old woman from Mumbai’s Versova area was cheated of ₹45 lakh after being promised a medical college seat for her daughter. The Versova police have arrested one accused, Meghna Santosh Satpute, while three others—Nitesh Pawar, Rakesh Gawde, and a man known as 'Sawant Kaka'—are currently absconding.
According to the police, the complainant Sanjana Gondhale, a resident of Andheri and a medical assistant at a private clinic, was looking for a medical seat for her younger daughter who had scored 315 marks in the NEET exam.
During this time, Gondhale was approached by her acquaintance, Meghna Satpute, who claimed she could secure admission under the management quota at a medical college in Sindhudurg.
The accused allegedly posed as trustees of the college and even claimed to be relatives of senior BJP leader Narayan Rane to gain trust. Believing their claims, Gondhale transferred ₹45 lakh through NEFT and in cash over a period of time.
However, when the promised admission did not materialize and Gondhale began asking questions, the accused started threatening her and eventually cut off all contact.
