Mumbai: Cylinder blasts at Vile Parle chawl injuring five

Mumbai: A level-1 cylinder blast was reported at around 6 am on Tuesday in New Kalpana Chawl, Western Express Highway, Vile Parle.

The blast injured five persons who have been admitted to V N Desai hospital. As per the hospital authorities, all the injured are stable now.

Fire Brigade depart did not receive any call

The injured persons are Amar Rai (27), Jayram Yadav (27), Harekumar Rai (38), Rakeshkumar Rai (30) and Arunkumar Rai (45) and all of them are in stable condition, the BMC official said.

Interestingly, the Fire Brigade department had no idea about the cylinder blast. According to an officer from the depart, no call of such cylinder blast was received in the control room and station office. Chief Fire brigade Officer Sanjay Manjrekar told FPJ that he got to know about the incident from the media.

Fire under flyover at Vile Parle

Meanwhile, a fire erupted at 4:17 pm below the flyover at Vile Parle on Western express highway near Sahara hotel. According to the BMC, the fire was confined to 20-25 scrap auto rickshaws and 15-20 scrapped vehicles which were seized and parked under the flyover by the traffic police. Fortunately, no injury has been reported in the incident and the traffic was mildly affected. The fire was extinguished on 6 pm.

Mumbai fire brigade's action on illegal cylinders

Besides this, the Mumbai fire brigade has seized 763 illegal cylinders in last two years. After the Chhabildas CBSE school cylinder blast the department has increased its search operation of storage of illegal cylinders in Mumbai and Mumbai suburbs.

According to Chief Fire Brigade officer Sanjay Manjrekar, "Officers of All 24 administrative wards of BMC informed the department about illegal storage of cylinders. Thereafter, we made joint team of officers to seize the cylinders. The seizures are ongoing."
