Mumbai: In a shocking case of cyber fraud from Mumbai's Bandra area, a woman was swindled out of ₹90,000 while attempting to return clothes purchased via the Ajio app. The scam took an even darker turn when the fraudster threatened to kill her family and bomb a government building in Mumbai after being confronted.

According to Bandra Police, the victim — a resident of Bandra West — had placed an order for clothes through the Ajio app around 3 PM on June 22, 2025. Unhappy with the delivered items, she decided to return them and searched for the customer care number through the app to initiate a refund request.

She then called the number she found and was told she would be contacted shortly. A while later, she received a call from a man identifying himself as "Amit Mishra", who claimed he could help process her refund. He asked her to open her Google Pay app and follow certain steps.

Trusting the caller, the woman complied and entered the details as instructed. Moments later, she received a message that ₹90,000 had been debited from her bank account. When the woman’s daughter later called the fraudster’s number to confront him, he responded with chilling threats — saying he would kill the family and blow up a government building in Mumbai.

Realizing they had been conned, the victim approached Bandra Police Station and registered an FIR. Police have launched an investigation and are working to trace the unidentified caller.

The incident highlights the increasing trend of cybercriminals targeting people through fake customer service numbers and refund scams. Authorities have once again urged citizens to verify contact information only from official company websites or apps and to remain vigilant during online financial transactions.
