Mumbai Cyber Fraud: 52-Year-Old Film Producer Duped Of ₹40,000 In Online Cab Booking Scam For Udaipur Shoot; Case Registered

Mumbai: A shocking case of online fraud has emerged from Andheri West, where a film producer was duped of Rs 40,000 while trying to book a cab for an outstation shoot. The Amboli Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons and launched an investigation.

Andheri-Based Producer Falls Victim to Fraud During Vehicle Booking

According to police sources, the complainant, Jiya Ur Rahman Ata Khan (52), a film producer by profession, had contacted a woman named Bushra via phone on July 14 to book a Mahindra XUV700 for a shoot-related trip from Mumbai to Udaipur between July 15 and 18, 2025. The deal was fixed at Rs 15,000 per day, totaling Rs 60,000 for four days, with Rs 30,000 to be paid in advance and the remaining Rs 30,000 upon return.

Scammers Demanded Full Advance Before Disappearing

Bushra shared a QR code via WhatsApp for the advance payment, which Khan paid. Shortly after, another woman called and demanded an additional Rs 10,000, claiming the vehicle would only be dispatched after the full advance. Trusting the process, Khan paid the extra Rs 10,000.

Driver Sends Taunting Message: ‘Try Your Luck Next Time’

Bushra then sent him the contact number of a driver named Anil, stating he would be arriving soon. However, when Khan contacted Anil, he was told the driver would arrive by 1:00 PM. The car never arrived. Upon follow-up, the driver messaged him on WhatsApp saying, “I am busy. Try your luck better next time.”

Shocked by the message, Khan attempted to call both Bushra and the driver again, only to find both phones switched off. Realizing he had been scammed, Khan approached Amboli Police and lodged a formal complaint.

FIR Registered at Amboli Police Station, Probe Ongoing

The Amboli Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons under relevant sections of cheating and criminal breach of trust, and further investigation is underway.
