Mumbai: A theft at a businessman’s home in Andheri West was traced back to an unexpected source – his own daughter – after he received an anonymous phone call alerting him that someone from within the house was behind the missing money.
According to DN Nagar police, the businessman’s 17-year-old daughter, a student at a reputed Andheri West college, was being blackmailed by her boyfriend using obscene photographs. Under pressure, she stole Rs 3 lakh from her home to pay him.
The businessman, who keeps cash from his business at home, had initially noticed discrepancies in the funds and assumed it was an accounting mistake. But when Rs 3 lakh had gone missing, and the anonymous tip named his daughter, he confronted her, and she confessed. A case was registered against the youth on May 24.
