Mumbai: Borivali flyover appears damaged due to 'Anti-skid technology', says BMC
A few days before a video went viral on social media showing bits of gravel chipping off on the newly-inaugurated flyover.
Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation (BMC) administration has claimed that the quality of the newly constructed R M Bhattad flyover of Borivali west is up to the mark. It has clarified that the gravel which is appearing on the surface of the flyover is part of Anti-skid technology used by BMC.
A few days before a video went viral on social media showing bits of gravel chipping off the newly-inaugurated flyover.
On Monday, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane also circulated a video regarding the same.
The BMC in its statement said that it has been seen that many vehicles especially two-wheelers skid on the slippery surface of the roads.
Hence, Anti-skid technology was used on the R M Bhattad flyover so that bikes should not skid while running on the flyover.
The BMC has said that due to the use of anti-skid technology gravel is expected to appear on the surface.
The chipped surface is being cleaned regularly and after two-three weeks gravel will not be seen on the flyover, the civic body stated.
The BMC has said that chipping off of gravel should not be attributed to the quality of flyover.
On June 18, Aaditya Thackeray, inaugurated the flyover. This flyover will connect link road and Western Express Highway. It will also help in smooth movement of traffic on the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk, Kalpana Chawala, Sai Baba Nagar, Rajendra Nagar and around areas.
The flyover is 937 metre long and has two lanes on each side. It will help for smooth movement of traffic of the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk, Kalpana Chawala, Sai Baba Nagar, Rajendra Nagar and around areas.
The flyover will help improve speedy movement of vehicles and will also save the time of citizens.
13,347 metric ton concrete, 2,900 metric ton reinforcement steel, 4,186 structural steel has been used for the flyover. The total project cost of the flyover is 173 crore.
