Mumbai: Bandra Celebrates 90th Anniversary Of Christ The King Consecration And Statue Unveiling At St Andrew's Church
On Monday, St Andrews's Church, Bandra, celebrated the 90th anniversary of Bandra being consecrated to Christ the King and the statue being erected in its compound of on February 3, 1935.Consecration means giving one's life to God.

Bandra is one of the most cosmopolitan of Mumbai's suburbs. However, there was a time when the villages that made up Bandra was largely Christian, mostly East Indians.
On Monday, St Andrews's Church, Bandra, celebrated the 90th anniversary of Bandra being consecrated to Christ the King and the statue being erected in its compound of on February 3, 1935.Consecration means giving one's life to God.
According to a report on the 1935 event, the area's parishes - St. Andrew, St. Peter, Mount Carmel proclaimed Christian allegiance and loyalty forever to Jesus Christ, spiritual King of the Cosmos.

The League of The Sacred Heart of Jesus organised the function, creating a monument - the statue of Christ the King - to commemorate this event. Designed by Lourdes Netto and built of Italian marble, it stands on a pedestal designed by Robert Athogias, says the report.Around 20,000 people are reported to have participated in the evening service. A procession went along Hill Road to Sopari Talao and continued along Chapel Road, St. Peter's Road, Hill Road and back to St. Andrew Church.
