According to preliminary police findings, a speeding motorcycle rammed into a pedestrian who was crossing the signal, leading to the fatal accident. A case has been registered by Marine Drive Police Station against the motorcycle rider, Krishna Desai.
Birthday celebration details
Police said Krishna Uday Desai (19) had celebrated his birthday with friends in Mulund on Sunday night. He reportedly left the party around 11:30 pm, telling friends he was heading home. However, investigators believe he instead travelled towards South Mumbai. His parents tried calling him around 1:30 am, but his phone was switched off. They were later informed about his death in the morning.
At around 5:40 am, Krishna Desai was riding motorcycle (MH-01-EL-6266) at high speed with Chandni Imamali Shaikh (18) riding pillion. Near Parsi Gate, the bike allegedly struck pedestrian Kishor Pandurang Lamne (66), who was crossing the road during his morning walk.
Residences and investigation
The impact was severe, leaving all three critically injured. They were rushed to G T Hospital, where doctors declared them dead before admission. The deceased pedestrian, Kishor Lamne (66), was a resident of Kranti Nagar in Girgaum. Krishna Desai lived in Mulund East, while Chandni Shaikh was a resident of Geeta Nagar in Colaba. Police are yet to ascertain how Desai and Shaikh knew each other.
Despite relatively low traffic during early morning hours, the accident has once again raised concerns over speeding and violation of traffic norms in the city. Police have begun a detailed investigation and are examining CCTV footage and eyewitness statements to determine the exact sequence of events.
