Mumbai: The Mumbai Unit of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against a sub-inspector of Dongri police station for allegedly demanding bribe from a man whose brother was arrested by Dongri police in an NDPS act case, the agency officials said on Thursday.
The accused public servant has been identified as Dnyanesh Yegde. According to the ACB, on 14/10/2024, the brother of the complainant was arrested at Dongri Police Station, Mumbai under the offence of NDPS.
"When the complainant went to Dongri Police Station with regards to the case, PSI Yegde told the complainant that if his brother was put in a commercial quantity case, he would not get bail and would go to jail for seven-eight years. Accordingly, in order not to put the complainant's brother in a commercial quantity case, PSI Yegde demanded Rs. 3 lakh from the complainant and after negotiation, demanded a bribe of Rs. 2.70 lakh," said an ACB official.
Since the complainant did not want to bribe the public servant, he appeared before the ACB Mumbai on 16/10/2024 and filed a written complaint against the public servant.
"During the verification conducted on 16/10/2024 on the basis of the complaint received, it had been established that the public servant agreed to accept a bribe in the form of an undue advantage from the complainant. Therefore, a case was registered against Dnyanesh Yedge, Police Sub-Inspector, Dongri Police Station, Mumbai under the relevant section of the Prevention of Corruption Act," the official said.
