Mumbai: Fake Birth Certificates Issued In 30 Minutes for ₹1,000; Document Forgery Racket Busted In Thane
A fake birth and school-leaving certificate racket was busted in Thane’s Tembhi Naka area on Thursday, following a tip-off by prominent social activist Dr. Binu Varghese.

A fake birth and school-leaving certificate racket was busted in Thane’s Tembhi Naka area on Thursday, following a tip-off by prominent social activist Dr. Binu Varghese.
Acting on specific information about fraudulent activities being carried out behind Anand Dighe Ashram, Dr. Varghese alerted Zone 1 Deputy Commissioner of Police Subhash Bhurse. Acting promptly, Senior PI Bharat Chaudhary of Thane Nagar Police Station instructed a team led by PSI Deepak Khedkar to investigate the matter.

In a strategic move to expose the operation, Dr. Varghese submitted his own name, Binu N. Varghese, for documentation. Shockingly, he was issued a counterfeit birth certificate within 30 minutes, allegedly bearing the name of the Government of Maharashtra, Health Department, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)—all for just ₹1,000.
FIR procedures are currently in progress, and further investigations are underway to uncover the wider network involved in this forgery racket.
