As reported by ABP Majha, the incident occurred at 11 pm in the Ketkipada area, where the Navtarun Govinda team was rehearsing their human pyramid. According to police, the boy, identified as Mahesh Ramesh Jadhav, had climbed to the top tier of the pyramid when he lost his balance and fell directly to the ground. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
Police Begin Probe
Dahisar police reached the location immediately after receiving the report, conducted a spot inspection, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. An accidental death report has been registered and an investigation is underway to determine whether negligence was involved.
A Festival Known for High-Risk Feats
The Dahi Handi celebrations in Mumbai, scheduled for August 16, are renowned worldwide for their festive spirit and daring stunts. Thousands of Govinda teams travel across the city to break the symbolic pots hung at varying heights. Many teams form pyramids of up to seven or nine layers, a feat that often results in injuries.

Safety Measures Still Lacking
Despite the state government’s announcement of an insurance scheme for Govinda participants, many teams have yet to enrol. Organisers cite the complexity of the online registration process as a deterrent, leaving numerous participants without coverage in the event of accidents.
With the festival just days away, the death of young Mahesh has cast a sombre shadow over preparations. The tragedy has reignited concerns over participant safety and the urgent need for effective implementation of insurance and preventive measures.
