Mumbai: Multiple major infrastructure and transport projects in Mumbai, set for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, have been postponed due to heightened security concerns following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22.
The projects affected include the partial opening of Mumbai Metro Line 3 from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk, the completion of the Igatpuri-to-Thane segment of the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway, the new Thane Creek Bridge's Mumbai-bound lane, and the handover of redeveloped homes at BDD Chawl in Worli.
While most projects are completed or nearing final clearance, the public launches have been delayed to avoid large celebrations shortly after the attack that shocked the nation. Mumbai Metro Line 3 awaits final safety approval before its underground section can welcome passengers. The Samruddhi Expressway and Thane Creek Bridge, ready for months, also face postponements due to scheduling and security issues.

The BDD Chawl redevelopment, led by MHADA, was another highlight of the intended visit, with newly built housing blocks ready for residents. Before the Pahalgam incident, a major public event was planned at BKC. Following the cancellation, potential alternatives include smaller ceremonies or joint inaugurations by the Maharashtra Chief Minister and his deputies. No final resolutions have been announced, with updates pending on security conditions and PM Modi’s schedule.
