Mumbai: In a major relief for passengers, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced that travelers of ordinary buses can continue their journey in premium Shivneri and Shivshahi buses without paying the fare difference if their original bus breaks down.
The move comes as a response to frequent mechanical failures plaguing MSRTC’s fleet, causing inconvenience and delays for commuters. Technical failures have been reported in ordinary 'Lalpari' buses, as well as in the premium Shivneri and Shivshahi services.
Until now, passengers of broken-down ordinary buses had to either wait for another ordinary bus or pay extra to board a premium service. The new rule eliminates this fare burden and ensures smoother travel for affected passengers.
Addressing Passenger Complaints
MSRTC has received numerous complaints about passengers being left stranded due to bus breakdowns. In many instances, drivers and conductors of premium buses refused entry to passengers holding ordinary bus tickets unless they paid the fare difference.
To tackle this issue, MSRTC has issued strict instructions to its regional managers and depot officers, directing them to facilitate seamless transfers for affected travelers. The initiative is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and restoring confidence in state transport services.
