Mumbai: Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai received a bomb threat via email on Thursday, leading an immediate security response. Police teams, including the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), have rushed to the scene and are conducting checks.

Threatening emails were also received at the BSE, Vidhan Bhawan, and the Bombay High Court this morning. Adequate security measures have been implemented at all locations. Relevant legal action is being pursued at the respective police stations, according to the Mumbai Police.

The development comes just a day after a self-immolation attempt near the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan was foiled by police intervention.

Suicide Attempt Foiled Near Mumbai's Vidhan Bhavan

On Wednesday, a man identified as 38-year-old Dadaso Baban Kalsait, a resident of Takli village in Madha taluka of Solapur district, attempted to set himself on fire near Usha Mehta Chowk.

Police said Kalsait poured kerosene on himself in an apparent act of protest. However, alert personnel quickly restrained him before he could ignite the fuel, preventing a serious incident. He was subsequently detained and taken to Marine Drive Police Station for further questioning.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Kalsait was upset over the recent removal of a statue of Lord Vishwakarma which had allegedly been installed illegally on land belonging to the Lohar community. The statue had been removed by the local Nagar Panchayat a few days earlier, triggering the protest.

Police have registered a non-cognizable offence against Kalsait under Section 226 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and further inquiry is underway.

Authorities are continuing security checks at the Vidhan Bhavan following the bomb threat email, though officials have not yet disclosed further details about the source of the message.
