Maharashtra Tragedy: 2 Killed, 43 Injured As Goa-Bound Bus Overturns On NH-66 At Sukeli Ghat In Raigad Due To Alleged Overspeeding
A Goa-bound private bus carrying 45 passengers overturned at Sukeli Ghat on NH-66 in Raigad around 2:30 am, killing two and injuring 43. Police suspect overspeeding as the cause. Rescue teams responded quickly, and injured passengers were shifted to nearby hospitals.

Navi Mumbai, April 3: Two passengers were killed and 43 others injured after a private bus overturned on a sharp turn along the Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66) near Sukeli village in Raigad district in the early hours of Friday.
Accident details and location
The accident occurred around 2:30 am when the bus, carrying 45 passengers from Mumbai and Panvel to Goa, lost control on an uphill curve in the Sukeli ghat section and toppled onto its left side.
Victims identified, several injured
The deceased have been identified as Naim Nizam Sheikh (33), a resident of Kamothe, and Neelam Vaibhav Vibhute (40), a resident of Panvel. The injured include 43 passengers who sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Driver negligence suspected
According to police, the driver, Hemantkumar Bajirao Patil (36), a resident of Sindhudurg district, was allegedly driving at high speed and failed to negotiate the sharp turn, leading to the accident. Passengers were trapped inside the bus after it overturned and were later rescued by emergency teams.
“Prima facie, overspeeding and negligence while negotiating the ghat section appear to be the cause of the accident. A detailed investigation is underway,” a police officer from Nagothane police station said.
Injured shifted to multiple hospitals
Of the injured, 20 were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Nagothane, four were admitted to the Sub-District Hospital in Roha, and 19 were shifted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe for further treatment.

Rescue operations and traffic restoration
The overturned bus was later lifted using a crane and moved to the roadside, following which traffic on the busy highway was restored.
Police received information about the accident at 2:35 am and reached the spot within minutes. Rescue and clearance operations continued until around 9:00 am. Further investigation is being carried out by Nagothane Police.
