Maharashtra Govt Transfers ₹5,028 Crore To 6.22 Lakh Farmers In First Phase Of Loan Waiver Scheme

Mumbai, August 7, 2026: The Maharashtra government on Friday launched the first phase of the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme, transferring Rs 5,028 crore directly into the loan accounts of 6.22 lakh eligible farmers. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initiated the online benefit distribution at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.

Addressing the event, Fadnavis said the state is committed to ensuring that every eligible farmer benefits from the scheme. He announced that the first instalment had been credited to the loan accounts of farmers whose Aadhaar authentication had been completed.

The government has also directed all banks to immediately extend fresh kharif crop loans to beneficiaries so they can access timely credit for the ongoing farming season.

Online And Paperless Process

The Chief Minister said the scheme has been designed as a completely online and paperless process, eliminating the need for farmers to submit applications. Eligible beneficiary lists have been uploaded by banks on a MahaIT-developed portal and displayed at gram panchayat offices, cooperative societies, and bank branches. Farmers only need to complete registration on the AgriStack platform and Aadhaar authentication through Seva Kendras using their unique identification number.

Fadnavis assured that all remaining eligible farmers would receive benefits immediately after Aadhaar verification. “Our preparations are complete. If we receive authenticated data in one day, we can transfer the money the same day. Once Aadhaar authentication is completed, the process is automatic and the amount is credited,” he said.

He also instructed guardian ministers to identify district-level issues or pending cases so they can be examined by the Cabinet sub-committee for appropriate decisions.

Banks Upload Nearly 32 Lakh Accounts

According to Cooperation Department Principal Secretary Praveen Darade, 53 banks—including 30 District Central Cooperative Banks, 12 nationalised banks, and several private banks—have uploaded nearly 32 lakh loan accounts to the MahaIT portal for implementation of the loan waiver and one-time settlement components of the scheme. As of August 6, Aadhaar authentication had been completed for 12.10 lakh loan accounts.

Regional Allocation Of Funds

In the first phase, the highest allocation went to the Amravati division, where 1.58 lakh farmers received Rs 1,372.17 crore. Nashik division received Rs 1,209.39 crore for 1.40 lakh farmers, followed by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with Rs 932.61 crore for 1.30 lakh farmers.

Pune division received Rs 860.97 crore for 1.04 lakh farmers, Nagpur division Rs 544.71 crore for 70,290 farmers, and Konkan division Rs 108.86 crore for 18,687 farmers.
