Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau Registers 439 Corruption Trap Cases In 7 Months; Revenue Department Tops List

Mumbai, August 6, 2026: Statistics released by the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have revealed that 439 corruption-related trap cases were registered across the state between January and July this year.

Most of the cases involved officials of the Revenue and Land Records Department, followed by the Police, Panchayat Samiti and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL). The figures also show an increase from the 419 trap cases registered during the corresponding period last year.

Department-Wise Break-Up

The ACB's statistics revealed that, in the 439 trap cases, 632 persons, including 109 private individuals, were booked.

Further analysis of the statistics revealed that most officials involved in trap cases were Class III government employees (308), followed by Class II officials (81), Class I officials (47) and Class IV employees (20).

According to the statistics, the highest number of corruption-related trap cases this year were registered against officials of the Revenue and Land Records Department (104), followed by the Police (67), Panchayat Samiti (49), MSEDCL (27), the Education Department (23), Municipal Corporations (19), the Public Health Department (18) and the Forest Department (15).

Bribe Amounts And Regional Data

The statistics revealed that, in the 439 trap cases, the total amount of bribe money involved was Rs 2.20 crore.

The highest amount of bribe money sought was related to officials of the Police (Rs 54.65 lakh), followed by the Revenue and Land Records Department (Rs 33.43 lakh), Sales Tax (Rs 21.36 lakh), the Public Works Department (Rs 19.22 lakh) and Panchayat Samiti (Rs 11 lakh).

The statistics also revealed that the maximum number of trap cases were registered in the Nashik range (97), followed by Pune (82), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (65), Thane (58), Amravati (42), Nagpur (40), Nanded (33) and Mumbai (22).

Disproportionate Assets Case

This year, the ACB has registered only one disproportionate assets case, in which a CIDCO official has been booked. The total amount involved in the case is Rs 1.94 crore.
