Gadchiroli, August 6, 2026: In a major breakthrough against Left-Wing Extremism, the Gadchiroli Police, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), uncovered a hidden cache of arms, ammunition and explosives buried underground by Maoists in a remote forest area. The joint operation neutralised a significant security threat, police said.
Joint Operation Launched
Acting on confidential intelligence, security forces learned that Maoist operatives had hidden a quantity of firearms and explosive material in the dense Kumnar forest area along the Maharashtra–Chhattisgarh border. Under the guidance of Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh, a specialised operation was launched.
A few days ago, a search team comprising four police contingents, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and a CRPF unit was deployed to comb the rugged terrain. Security personnel cordoned off the suspected location. Following a meticulous sweep of the forest floor, the BDDS team excavated a concealed dump.
Arms And Explosives Recovered
The recovered inventory includes one SLR rifle, one .303 rifle, seven 12-bore rifles, three single-shot rifles, two BGL launchers, three SLR magazines, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two batteries, along with Maoist literature. Police said Maoist groups have historically used the dense border forests to manufacture and store such weapons.
This recovered material was allegedly used to launch ambushes on security personnel and orchestrate sabotage during events such as "Naxal Week" and regional elections. Officials confirmed that all recovered items have been seized under the supervision of senior officers.
