Disha Salian case: Union Minister Narayan Rane, son summoned by Mumbai police

Union Minister Narayan Rane and his son MLA Nitesh Rane has been summoned by Malvani police in connection with the case registered against them for allegedly making defamatory statements and spreading false information about the death of Disha Salian, former manager of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
As per the notice, the minister and son have been asked to appear before the investigating officer of the case at 11 am on Friday and Thursday respectively.
As per the investigation carried by Mumbai police, Salian committed suicide on June 8, 2020, by jumping off a building at Malvani six days prior to the death of Rajput who too committed suicide and was found hanging at his residential flat in Bandra on June 14 2020.
In his press conference on February 19, Narayan Rane had allegedly made derogatory remarks stated Salian's mother in her complaint to the police, Narayan Rane's son Nitesh was also present for the conference.
Following the press conference, a complaint was lodged before the state commission for women which recorded the statement of Disha's mother and issued notice to Mumbai police to file a report
On the complaint of Disha's mother Vasanti the Malvani police last week registered an offence under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 211 (False charge of offence made with intent to injure), 500 (defamation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 (common intention) along with Information Technology Act section 67.
"We will give our reply after consulting with lawyers, said Nitesh following the summons. "Who is pressurising the victim's family, how mayor went to her house along with members of woman's commission and after which this FIR has been lodged, we will give all this information to the court," he added.
