SpiceJet faced two serious disruptions on consecutive days, with one flight delayed after unruly passengers tried to storm the cockpit in Delhi, and another grounded in Pune due to a technical fault, triggering hours of delays and passenger frustration.
On July 14, flight SG 9282 from Delhi to Mumbai was delayed by nearly seven hours after two passengers attempted to forcefully enter the cockpit while the aircraft was taxiing for takeoff at Delhi Airport.
"Despite repeated requests by the cabin crew, fellow passengers and the Captain, the individuals refused to return to their seats," the airline said in a statement.
As a safety measure, the aircraft returned to the bay, the two passengers were offloaded and handed over to CISF. The flight, originally scheduled for 12:30 pm, finally took off at 7:21 pm, according to Flightradar24.
Meanwhile, on July 13, another SpiceJet flight, SG-914 from Pune to Delhi, experienced a technical snag on the runway, leading to a nine-hour delay. Passengers said the aircraft suddenly halted after taxiing, causing alarm. The flight, originally scheduled for 12 pm, eventually departed at 9:05 pm.
SpiceJet clarified that the aircraft was chocks-on for a 5:15 pm departure, and passengers were deboarded after about an hour, denying claims that they were kept onboard for two hours.
