Bhuleshwar Cha Raja Tragedy: How Did Ganesh Idol Collapse? Nut-Bolt Failure Suspected, Police Probe Underway After 2 Killed In Mishap |

Mumbai: The tragic collapse of the 22-foot-tall idol of Bhuleshwar Cha Raja during its arrival procession on Saturday evening has left two people dead and five others injured. A preliminary police investigation has now pointed to a possible technical failure in the support system holding the massive idol.

The incident occurred when the idol was being transported from a Ganesh idol workshop in Byculla towards Bhuleshwar. The procession was reportedly nearing the pandal, with the idol around 50-100 feet away, when it suddenly collapsed from the crane.

The deceased have been identified as Bhuleshwar Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal president Sanket Nevshe and office-bearer Brijesh Joshi. Five others, including two young girls, were injured in the accident.

According to the preliminary findings, an important nut-bolt in the support mechanism holding the idol reportedly came loose while the idol was being moved with the help of a crane, as reported by News18 Marathi. The sudden increase in pressure on the support system is suspected to have caused the nut-bolt to dislodge, resulting in the 22-foot idol losing its balance and crashing down.

However, police have stressed that this is only a preliminary assessment and that the exact cause will be established after a detailed technical investigation. The V.P. Road Police have begun a legal inquiry and are initiating the process of registering an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in connection with the incident. Investigators are examining the crane's capacity, cables, support system and other safety arrangements used during the idol's transportation.

Police are also checking whether safety protocols were followed and whether any technical or operational negligence contributed to the collapse. Officials have indicated that if negligence or a technical lapse is established during the investigation, those responsible will face appropriate legal action and a case will be registered under relevant sections.
