Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and renowned choreographer Dhanashree Verma have officially ended their marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in December 2020, had been living separately for over two years before legally finalising their divorce on March 20, 2025. While their love story started on a high note, it was ultimately short-lived. Here’s a look at their journey-from romance to separation.

Chahal and Verma first connected in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. Yuzvendra Chahal, a key bowler for the Indian cricket team, was exploring new interests online when he stumbled upon Dhanashree’s dance tutorials on YouTube. Her vibrant personality and exceptional choreography caught his attention, leading him to enroll in one of her online dance classes. Their student-teacher dynamic soon transformed into a beautiful friendship, and romance quickly followed.

A whirlwind romance and a grand wedding

In August 2020, the couple surprised their fans by announcing their engagement. Their bond seemed unshakable, and their wedding in December 2020 was an intimate yet grand affair attended by close friends and family. Chahal and Verma frequently shared heartwarming glimpses of their life together on social media, becoming one of the most adored celebrity couples.

Despite their picture-perfect love story, cracks began to appear in their relationship. By mid-2022, the couple had reportedly started living separately. Though neither addressed the issues publicly, fans noticed a decline in their shared posts and interactions. By early 2025, both Chahal and Verma agreed to part ways amicably and filed for divorce by mutual consent on February 5, 2025.

Legal proceedings and high court intervention

While they sought a quick divorce, legal procedures initially delayed the process. The couple requested the Bombay Family Court to waive the mandatory six-month waiting period required under Section 13B(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act. However, the court denied their plea on February 20, 2025, citing incomplete mediation and partial compliance with consent terms. Seeking a faster resolution, they approached the Bombay High Court, which, considering Chahal’s IPL commitments, granted them an exemption and expedited the proceedings. The divorce was finalised on March 20, 2025.

As part of the divorce settlement, Chahal agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore as alimony to Dhanashree. Reports indicate that half of the amount has already been paid, with the remainder to be settled in installments as per their agreement.

Speculation and social media buzz

During their separation, multiple rumors about the reasons behind their split surfaced online. Adding to the speculation, radio jockey and social media influencer RJ Mahvash, rumored to be close to Chahal, posted cryptic messages on social media, further fueling gossip. Despite the ongoing buzz, both Chahal and Verma have remained silent about their personal matters and chosen not to engage in the media frenzy.

With the divorce finalised, both individuals are focusing on their professional lives. Chahal is gearing up for the IPL 2025 season, where he will be playing for Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, Dhanashree continues to expand her choreography career, taking on new projects in Bollywood and digital entertainment.
