Thai Couple Who Kissed for 58 Hours & Set Guinness World Record Announce Separation After 10 Years
The couple emphasised that they still cherish the memories of their shared accomplishment as they announced their separation

A Thai couple who once held the Guinness World Record for the longest kiss has sadly gone their separate ways. Ekkachai Tiranarat and his wife, Laksana, captured global attention in 2013 when they locked lips for an incredible 58 hours, 35 minutes. Despite their record-breaking achievement, Ekkachai recently revealed on the BBC Sounds podcast Witness History that their relationship has come to an end. However, he emphasised that he still cherishes the memories of their shared accomplishment.
The couple’s record-setting kiss was anything but romantic. As reported by the Daily Mail, Ekkachai reflected on the extreme rules of the competition, which required them to maintain the kiss at all times, including during bathroom breaks. Even hydration was a challenge, as they had to pass water between their mouths without breaking contact. Despite the discomfort, they persevered and walked away with a Guinness World Record that remains unbroken to this day.
Not their first attempt at the record
This wasn’t the couple’s first time taking on such a challenge. Back in 2011, they had already claimed the title by kissing for an exhausting 46 hours and 24 minutes. Interestingly, they hadn’t originally planned to participate in the contest that year. Laksana had recently recovered from an illness, and Ekkachai was looking for a way to cheer her up with a vacation. However, the tempting grand prize-50,000 Thai Baht (around £1,200 at the time) and a diamond ring-persuaded them to give it a try.
Social media reacts to the breakup
When news of their split surfaced, social media users were stunned. Daily Mail shared the update on Instagram, prompting an outpouring of reactions. One user humorously remarked, "If even a 58-hour kiss couldn't keep them together, what hope is there for the rest of us?" Another was in disbelief over the physical challenge, commenting, "Wait, so they didn’t sleep for over two days?!" Meanwhile, others lamented the state of romance, with one person jokingly declaring, "Love is officially dead."
While their relationship may have ended, Ekkachai and Laksana’s endurance feat remains an extraordinary testament to commitment, both to each other at the time and to the pursuit of an unforgettable world record.
