Christmas 2024: 6 Decor Trends You Can’t Miss This Festive Season

As the holy-jolly Christmas season draws near, it is the perfect time to transform your house into a festive wonderland with a beautiful Christmas tree and twinkling lights! No holiday celebration feels complete without the magic of decoration, and each year brings fresh trends and DIY techniques to elevate your space.

In 2024, the holiday spirit is all about fusing modern design with vintage charm while adopting sustainability and innovation. Let's explore the top six Christmas decoration trends for this year and how to incorporate these ideas into your festive decor!

Eco-friendly and sustainable decor

The push for sustainability continues, with eco-conscious decor leading the trend. It incorporates natural materials, reusable ornaments, and handmade elements to create a sustainable yet festive space for Christmas.

How to try it:

• Use biodegradable garlands made from dried citrus slices, cinnamon sticks, and greenery to adorn the doors and tables.

• Opt for wooden ornaments or ones crafted from recycled materials for Christmas tree embellishments.

• Reuse jars, tins, or old fabrics into holiday-themed decorations for the house.

Monochromatic hues

Single-colour schemes are taking over this year, creating elegant and cohesive displays. Popular shades for the 2024 Christmas season include icy blue, emerald green, and classic gold.

How to try it:

• Choose a single hue for your tree, combining matte, shiny, and glitter finishes for depth.

• Coordinate table settings, wreaths, and ribbons in the same colour shades.

• Add subtle lighting in a matching tone to complete the look.

Maximalist Christmas trees

Over-the-top decorations are in! The voluminous and huge Christmas trees with lush, adorning oversized ornaments, ribbons, and layers of lights are the choice for many. Even Hollywood sensation Kylie Jenner opts for an almost 20-foot-long tree for her Christmas decor every holiday season.

How to try it:

• Layer ribbons of different textures and widths vertically or spirally around the tree.

• Use statement ornaments like giant baubles or hand-painted pieces.

• Incorporate various textures, such as faux fur, velvet, and glitter, to make the tree pop.

Vintage themes

Retro is making a comeback, with 1960s-style tinsel trees, vintage Santa figurines, and bubble lights stealing the spotlight this season. While many love modern trends, some are going back to classic decor this year for Christmas.

How to try it:

• Visit thrift shops or online marketplaces to find authentic vintage pieces and decor items. You can also reuse the old items from previous celebrations.

• Use ceramic Christmas trees and antique nutcrackers as focal points.

• Pair retro decor with modern elements, such as contemporary lights and minimal style, for a playful blend of old and new.

• Use rusty and gold-tined ornaments and pieces to decorate your space for a vintage feel.

• Opt for a warm and cosy light setting instead of dramatic colours.

Technicolour Christmas lights

Colour-changing LED lights are a favourite for 2024, offering customisable lighting displays. You can either play around with multi-colours or stick to one theme, creating a playful element in the room.

How to try it:

• Invest in smart LED string lights you can control via a smartphone app.

• Experiment with patterns like twinkling, chasing lights or fading transitions on the wall or ceiling.

• Highlight specific areas, such as your tree, windows, or outdoor spaces, with different colour schemes.

DIY personalisation

Who doesn't love to DIY during festive decoration? This year, people are opting to add a personal touch to their celebration with personalised ornaments, stockings, and signs to add a heartfelt touch to holiday decor in 2024.

How to try it:

• Craft your ornaments with names or custom messages using paint pens or colours.

• Create a gallery wall of family photos or your own paintings in festive frames.

• Incorporate handwritten notes or handmade gifts from loved ones into your decor.
